Actiq, manufactured by Cephalon, Inc., has been linked to many serious, life-threatening side effects such as overdoses and deaths.

Actiq is a strong narcotic that was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for cancer patients only. What is the problem with Actiq?

What was meant to be a drug used for break through pain in cancer patients, has now been marketed and prescribed off- label for uses other than its original intention. Actiq was approved by the FDA years ago for cancer patients only. It was never approved for any other use. It is estimated that only 1% of Actiq users are being prescribed it for purposes approved by the FDA. Actiq is extremely addictive resulting in severe, life-threatening side effects. There have been 127 deaths reported regarding the use of Actiq, including two children who mistook the drug for candy, and 47 reports of overdoses and other misuses.
