Overview

Asset Bold is a diet and weight-loss pill that claims it is “all-natural,” with ingredients like bee pollen, vitamins, and herbs. Recently, the manufacturer discontinued Asset Bold and replaced it with Asset Bold II. In May 2014, the FDA warned that Asset Bee Pollen contained sibutramine, an illegal hidden ingredient. Last year, the FDA issued a similar warning for sibutramine in Asset Extreme.

Asset Bold Contains Illegal Hidden Ingredient

May 16, 2014 — In a Safety Alert, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned that Asset Bold contains sibutramine, a pharmaceutical drug with severe side effects that was banned in October 2010.

The FDA has warned that Asset Bold is a health hazard because sibutramine is associated with cardiovascular side effects. It may also interact with other medications. According to the FDA:

“The product poses a threat to consumers because sibutramine is known to substantially increase blood pressure and/or pulse rate in some patients and may present a significant risk for patients with a history of coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, or stroke. These products may also interact, in life-threatening ways, with other medications a consumer may be taking.”

What is the problem?

Sibutramine is a dangerous appetite-suppressing drug that was originally sold under the brand-name Meridia. In 2010, the FDA withdrew sibutramine from the market after a study linked it to a 16% increased risk of cardiovascular events compared to a placebo.

Sibutramine belongs to a class of antidepressant known as serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRIs). Like many antidepressants, sudden discontinuation of sibutramine is associated with severe withdrawal symptoms.

Sibutamine Side Effects

  • High blood pressure
  • Abnormal heartbeat
  • Fast heart rate (tachycardia)
  • Heart attack
  • Stroke
  • Cardiac arrest
  • Withdrawal symptoms
  • Interactions with other medications
  • Death
