Overview

Juvisync belongs to a class of diabetes drugs called incretin mimetics. These drugs lower blood-sugar levels by forcing the pancreas to make more insulin. They do so by mimicking hormones called incretins that tell beta-cells in the pancreas to make insulin.

Juvisync and Pancreatic Cancer

Many experts are concerned about pancreatic side effects from long-term incretin therapy. Over time, over-stimulation of the pancreas could lead to inflammation (pancreatitis), a major risk-factor for pancreatic cancer.

Studies Link Incretin Therapy and Pancreatic Side Effects

In 2013, JAMA Internal Medicine published a study linking incretin therapy with a doubled increased risk of pancreatitis.

Just before that study was published, Diabetes published a study linking incretin therapy with pre-cancerous growths called pancreatic duct metaplasia that could lead to pancreatic cancer. At the very least, researchers warned that patients with growths would need pancreatic surgery.

FDA Warning for Juvisync

In response to these studies, the FDA issued a Safety Communication for Juvisync and other incretin mimetic drugs. The agency opened an investigation, but did not update the label on Juvisync or strengthen warnings about pancreatic cancer.

Increatin Mimetic MDL

Over 750 lawsuits have been centralized under U.S. District Judge Anthony Battaglia in the Southern District of California, Multi-District Litigation (MDL No. 2452), In Re: Incretin Mimetics Products Liability Litigation MDL.

What is the problem?

The Schmidt Firm, PLLC is nationally recognized as a class action law firm. However, our trial lawyers are not filing a Juvisync class action. We are filing individual lawsuits against drug-makers for failing to warn about pancreatic side effects.

About Class Actions

Class actions are usually filed on behalf of a large group of people. They help resolve a lot of similar claims efficiently. If a jury awards compensation or a manufacturer agrees to a settlement, the payout is divided among everyone in the class action.

Why Our Law Firm is Filing Individual Lawsuits as Opposed to a Class Action

Class action lawsuits are not intended or designed to maximize compensation for people with the most serious injuries. This is why it is unlikely that one will be filed for people who developed pancreatic cancer after taking diabetes medications.

Instead of a class action, our attorneys file individual lawsuits. We help victims of defective medications seek compensation from pharmaceutical companies that fail to warn about side effects. If you were injured, you could receive compensation for your injury, medical expenses, and more.
