UPDATE: Wright Settles 2,000 Hip Implant Lawsuits for $240M

In November 2016, Wright Medical Technology agreed to pay a $240 million settlement to resolve approximately 85% of the 2,600 total lawsuits involving metal-on-metal hip implants. Most of the money will go to 1,300 people whose implants failed within 8 years. Up to $170,000 is available to  people with the Conserve Cup, the implant associated with the most failures.

Wright Conserve Class Action Information

Wright Medical Technology is facing hundreds of lawsuits involving the Conserve line of hip implants. Lawyers allege that the metal-on-metal design of the Conserve hip replacement is defective because it can shed toxic particles of chromium and cobalt into a patient’s hip joint.

These lawsuits are not consolidated into a Wright Conserve class action — they are individual lawsuits filed by people who hired their own attorney. Federal judges have established a Multi-District Litigation (MDL No. 2329) to centralize the litigation in Georgia.

Hip replacements involved in the litigation:

  • CONSERVE® Total Hip Implant System
  • CONSERVE® Total A-Class Advanced Metal Hip Implant System
  • CONSERVE® Resurfacing System

What is the problem?

The Schmidt Firm, PLLC is nationally recognized as a class action law firm, but our Defective Medical Device Litigation Group is not filing a Wright Conserve class action. Instead, we are investigating legal claims on behalf of individuals who were injured by severe side effects, such as:

  • Metallosis (metal poisoning)
  • Loosening of the hip implant
  • Bone loss and tissue necrosis
  • Failure
  • Severe pain
  • Decreased mobility
  • Revision surgery

About Class Actions

Class actions are designed to help hundreds or even thousands of people seek compensation from the same defendant. Lawyers select one member to be the “class representative” and use that person’s case to argue for compensation on behalf of the entire group.

Why Our Law Firm is Filing Individual Lawsuits as Opposed to a Wright Conserve Class Action

We specialize in filing individual lawsuits against defective medical device manufacturers. The Wright Conserve is associated with some extremely serious side effects. If you decide to file a lawsuit, we can help you seek financial compensation for these injuries, medical expenses, and more.
