Zimmer Persona Knee Replacement Recall

In March 2015, Zimmer Inc. issued a Class II recall for about 11,700 of the Zimmer Persona Trabecular Metal Tibial Plate.

The device-maker received approximately 6 complaints per 1,000 devices implanted, which was higher than the expected rate. About 36% of the complaints involved loosening of the device and/or symptomatic problems that had to be fixed with revision surgery.

Many of the patients also had radiolucent lines, which are dark lines that are seen on an X-ray of the knee. They indicate poor fixation of the implant and are also a risk-factor for premature failure of the device.

Zimmer sold the implants throughout the United States, including over a dozen Veterans Affairs (VA) hospitals. They were also sold worldwide from November 29, 2012 until January 23, 2015.

What is the problem?

The Schmidt Firm, PLLC is nationally recognized as a class action law firm. However, our attorneys are not currently filing a class action lawsuit on behalf of people who were injured by the Zimmer Persona.

Instead, we are investigating individual claims and filing lawsuits on behalf of each person who was injured by this implant. Contact us today if you were injured by:

  • Chronic pain
  • Loosening of the implant
  • Limited mobility
  • Radiolucent lines (risk-factor for failure)
  • Early failure of the implant
  • Revision surgery
  • And more

About Class Actions

There are advantages to class actions when a lot of people have essentially the same legal claim. You may have already been a part of a class action — they are a popular way to help reimburse people who bought products based on deceptive advertising, for example.

Why Our Law Firm is Filing Individual Lawsuits as Opposed to a Class Action

Class action lawsuits can have major disadvantages for people who have very serious injuries. It is not uncommon for plaintiffs to receive pennies on the dollar, while attorneys accept a “low-ball” settlement and take a huge cut of the payout.

Our law firm files individual lawsuits because we believe every person who was injured by a defective knee replacement deserves an attorney who is committed to their case. We specialize in bringing negligent device-makers to justice.

If you were injured by the Zimmer Persona, we may be able to help. You could receive compensation for your pain and suffering, medical expenses, permanent disability, decreased quality of life, lost income, and more.
