Frigidaire Stoves Recalled for Fire Hazard
Frigidaire, a division of Electrolux Home Products Inc., has re-announced a recall for about 203,000 Frigidaire® and Kenmore® Smooth-Top Freestanding Electric Ranges due to a fire hazard and a risk of burn injuries.
These stoves were sold from 2001 through 2009 at Sears and other stores. They were previously recalled in August 2009, but more fires and burn injuries have been reported since then.
What is the Problem?
Depending on the model, the surface heating elements can:
- 1) Turn on spontaneously without being switched on
- 2) Fail to turn off after being switched off
- 3) Heat to different temperatures than selected

When the recall was originally announced in August 2009, there were 126 reports of incidents, including 4 reports of minor burns and 2 reports of minor property damage.
Since the August 2009 recall, there have been at least 212 more reports of the ranges behaving erratically, including 14 fires and 8 injuries involving burns to hands or arms, as well as smoke inhalation.
What is the Risk?

How To Identify Recalled Stoves
The recalled stoves were sold nationwide at Sears and other stores from June 2001 through August 2009 for between $1,000 and $2,500.
This recall involves Frigidaire, Frigidaire Gallery, Frigidaire Professional, and Kenmore Elite Smooth-Top Electric Ranges. The stoves have rear panel rotary knobs and digital displays.
To check if your electric stove is being recalled, find the model number and serial tag on the frame of the drawer at the bottom of the unit when the drawer is opened. Then visit the recall website at https://www.ema-recall.com/potentiometer/.
