FDA Warning for Glyxambi Health Risks

Glyxambi is an oral medication for type-2 diabetes that is marketed by Boehringer Ingelheim. It combines empagliflozin (Jardiance) with linagliptin (Tradjenta), which help control blood-sugar levels in different ways.

Unfortunately, empagliflozin belongs to a new class of diabetes medications that have recently been associated with diabetic ketoacidosis. In May 2015, the FDA issued a Safety Communication to warn that they had received 20 reports of this side effect.

Ketoacidosis is one of the most serious complications of diabetes. It occurs when the body is forced to use fat and muscle cells as an energy source because it cannot use glucose (sugar) in the bloodstream. This causes toxic fatty acids known as ketones to build up in the body.

According to the FDA:

“Patients should pay close attention for any signs of ketoacidosis and seek medical attention immediately if they experience symptoms such as difficulty breathing, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, confusion, and unusual fatigue or sleepiness.”

What is the problem?

The Schmidt Firm, PLLC is nationally recognized as a class action law firm. However, our attorneys are not currently pursuing justice for our clients through a Glyxambi class action. Instead, we are filing individual lawsuits.

About Class Actions

The benefit of a class action is that thousands of people with a similar legal claim can collectively seek compensation. This type of lawsuit makes sense when it would be financially impractical for everyone to file an individual lawsuit.

Why Our Law Firm is Filing Individual Lawsuits as Opposed to a Glyxambi Class Action

Joining a class action can have disadvantages for people with the most serious injuries. The outcome of the entire lawsuit depends on the “class representative.” Members of a class action may also have to accept a “low-ball” settlement with high attorneys’ fees.

Our attorneys file individual lawsuits on behalf of people who developed side effects after taking defective drugs. We hold pharmaceutical companies accountable for selling dangerous medications and failing to warn about side effects. If you decide to file a lawsuit, you could receive compensation for your medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost income, disability, and more.
