Propoxyphene Lawsuit & Lawyer

Breaking News: On 11/19/2010 The FDA asked the generic makers of propoxyphene-containing drugs to voluntarily remove their products from the U.S. market. This follows the makers of the brand name version of the drugs Darvon and Darvocet, Xanodyne’s Pharmaceuticals Inc. to recall the drugs from the U.S. market on Friday.

Are all propoxyphene-containing drugs being recalled? The simple answer is no.  The FDA is asking the makers of other propoxyphene-containing drugs to recall and/or stop making them, however the FDA has not recalled the products.  As mentioned above however, the maker of Darvocet and Darvon has decided to stop selling its product in the U.S. market. Below is a list of other drugs that contain propoxyphene:

  • Darvon and Darvon N 100
  • Darvocet
  • PP-Cap
  • Dolene
  • Propacet 100
  • Wygesic
  • SK-65
  • SK-65 APAP
  • Trycet
  • Genagesic
  • E-Lor
  • Balacet

The FDA sought market removal of propoxyphene immediately after obtaining new clinical data showing that the medicine puts patients at risk of potentially critical or even fatal cardiovascular rhythm abnormalities. As a result of these data, combined with other information, which include new epidemiological data, the agency concluded that the risks of the medication outweigh the advantages.

The Food and Drug Administration is notifying health care professionals to avoid prescribing propoxyphene to their patients, and patients who are at this time using the drug need to contact their health care professional as soon as possible to discuss switching to another pain management remedy.
