May 23, 2014 — Trader Joe’s and Target have initiated a recall for nearly 15,000 pounds of hummus and dip due to the risk of food poisoning with the Listeria bacteria. No illnesses have been linked to the recalled products.

What is Listeriosis?

Elderly people are also at greater risk of complications like meningitis and septicemia. Unlike most other types of food-borne pathogens, Listeria can grow under refrigeration temperatures.
