May 23, 2014 — Trader Joe’s and Target have initiated a recall for nearly 15,000 pounds of hummus and dip due to the risk of food poisoning with the Listeria bacteria. No illnesses have been linked to the recalled products.
The manufacturer, Hot Mama’s Foods, is based in Massachusetts but sells products nationwide. The recall was issued after the Texas Department of Health discovered Listeria during routine testing in a sample of Target Archer Farms Traditional Hummus (10 ounce).
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has provided pictures of recalled products. Use-by dates range between April and June 2014.

- Tryst Yellow Lentil Hummus with Sunflower Seeds & Apricots
What is Listeriosis?
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) warns that listeriosis can be extremely serious for pregnant women, who may develop a fever and suffer a miscarriage, stillbirth, premature birth, or infection of their newborn. Elderly people are also at greater risk of complications like meningitis and septicemia. Unlike most other types of food-borne pathogens, Listeria can grow under refrigeration temperatures.
