140 Disneyland Injury Lawsuits Filed Since 2007

An investigation from the Orange County Register has found that Disneyland has faced 140 personal injury lawsuits since 2007. Approximately one-third of these lawsuits were for slips, trips, and falls. The vast majority were dismissed or settled outside of court for undisclosed sums of money. One law professor quoted in the article said that Disneyland has a strong incentive to settle cases quickly and quietly to avoid negative publicity.

The Register found the following examples of Disneyland injuries that settled:

  • A woman slipped and fell in eggs that were left on the floor of Goofy’s Kitchen at a Disneyland hotel
  • A man who was burned when a Disneyland employee poured hot coffee on his arm
  • A man who was hit by a sheet of metal that flew off a snack stand in Disneyland
  • A woman who was hit in the head by an umbrella in a food court, triggering seizures
  • And more

Disneyland Injuries and Accidents

Millions of people visit Disneyland theme parks safely every year, and very few are injured. This is good evidence that Disneyland theme parks are generally safe. Disneyland has a strong incentive to make sure their visitors have a good time, because a serious injury can ruin a vacation.

Unfortunately, Disneyland injuries do occur. They are not always the fault of the park. Accidents happen. But sometimes, severe injuries occur and it is Disneyland’s fault for not protecting your safety. This is called negligence. Proving negligence is a critical factor in winning personal injury lawsuits, and it is essential to hire an experienced personal injury attorney who can prove that Disneyland is at fault for your injury.

The risk of Disneyland injury is not publicized — the success of a theme park is based on the perception that the park is safe for everyone, including young children. Disneyland theme parks have a strong incentive to settle injury cases to avoid the negative publicity from a public trial. Very few cases against Disneyland have ever gone to trial.

If you have a personal injury lawsuit for a Disneyland injury, you could be entitled to significant financial compensation for your pain and suffering, medical expenses, lost income, and more.

Disneyland Slips, Trips, and Falls

Slips, trips, and falls are some of the most common Disneyland injuries. They often occur because a walkway within the park was not designed safely.

How could a slip, trip, or fall injury occur at Disneyland? Perhaps a fountain sprayed water onto a slippery surface, and a small child slipped and fell. Maybe Disneyland employees neglected to clean up spilled food, creating a hazard. Serious falls can occur on ramps or stairs that lack handrails, or on unexpected curbs that are not visibly marked, or in the slippery boarding area for a water ride. The list of potential hazards is very long.

A serious slip, trip, or fall could cause the following injuries:

  • Broken bones
  • Sprains and strains
  • Cuts, scrapes, and lacerations
  • Severe bruising
  • Head, neck, spinal, or back injuries
  • Joint injuries (especially wrist or ankle)
  • Concussion
  • Seizure
  • Disability
  • Death
  • And more

Disneyland Injuries on Rides and Attractions

Some of the most serious and deadly Disneyland injuries have occurred on rides, roller coasters, and attractions within the park. These injuries may occur because the ride was not designed safely, or it was malfunctioning due to poor maintenance, or because employees were not following proper safety procedures. A Disneyland injury on a ride could cause severe injury, permanent disability, or death.

What is an example of negligence within a theme park?

  • A ride operator who did not properly secure you in a roller coaster, leading to whiplash and back injuries
  • Failure to properly maintain or inspect a ride or roller coaster, leading to a breakdown that causes injuries
  • Being hit by a tram, bus, or other moving vehicle within the park by a driver who is not paying attention
  • A Disneyland worker who is not given proper training, who then injures himself or another park visitor
  • And more
