Xolair, a popular anti-asthma drug, was linked to life-threatening side effects in clinical trials. The FDA has warned about blood vessel side effects in the heart and brain. They are also concerned about a possible risk of cancer.
What is Xolair?
Xolair is an injection drug that is primarily used for the prevention of asthma attacks. It is also sometimes used for patients who suffer from chronic hives.
FDA Warning for Xolair
Soon after Xolair was approved in 2003, the FDA required drug-makers to conduct a 5-year safety study. In 2009, the FDA began investigating early evidence linking Xolair and heart problems. However, it was not until September 2014 that the FDA warned about cardiovascular and cerebrovascular side effects.
Xolair Side Effects
The EXCELS clinical trial found evidence of the following side effects:
- Mini-strokes
- Transient ischemic attacks)
- Heart attack
- Sudden, unexpected chest pain
- High blood pressure in arteries of the lungs (pulmonary hypertension)
- Blood clots in the lungs (pulmonary embolism)
- Venous thrombosis (blood clots in veins)
- Cancer
What is the problem?
The Schmidt Firm, PLLC is nationally recognized as a class action law firm, but our attorneys are not filing a Xolair class action lawsuit. Instead, we are filing individual lawsuits and focusing our efforts on representing people with the most severe injuries.
About Class Actions
Class action lawsuits are useful when a lot of people have the same legal claim against the same defendant. You may have already been part of class actions involving reimbursement for defective products, for example. Class actions make sense when it would be financially impractical for each person to file a lawsuit alone.
Why Our Law Firm is Filing Individual Lawsuits as Opposed to a Xolair Class Action
Xolair has been linked to many serious, life-threatening side effects. Our attorneys believe we can best advocate for each of our clients by providing personal legal representation. The problem with class actions is that members may have to accept higher attorneys’ fees or a “low-ball” settlement.
Our trial attorneys file individual lawsuits because we believe this is the best way we can advocate for each client’s interests. We focus on maximizing each client’s financial recovery by holding pharmaceutical companies accountable for selling defective drugs.
