Schwarzkopf Osis Grip Cans Recalled After Hand Injury Report
In August 2026, Henkel Corp. announced a voluntary recall for dozens of lots of Schwarzkopf Professional Osis Grip Hair Mousse, a hair care product that is sold in the 6.76 fl. oz/200 ml aluminum cans. The product is pressurized inside the can and dispensed with a push-button.
Henkel warned consumers about a packaging defect in the aluminum can that may present an explosion and injury hazard. This defect was described as a “packaging imperfection.” If it allows the sudden release of the pressurized contents, it is possible that consumers could be injured.
Where Was It Sold?
The recalled cans of hair mousse were sold nationwide through 21 distributors. It was also sold directly to hair stylists and consumers shopping in retail stores.
Why Did Henkel Announce the Recall?
Henkel said it issued the recall after receiving complaints about the aluminum cans. One customer reported suffering a bruised hand injury due to an exploding can. There were also 2 separate complaints from salons describing problems with the cans.
What is the Problem?
Aerosol and pressurized aluminum cans are supposed to be strong enough to safely contain a product under high pressure. If a seal, seam, or wall of the can ruptures or leaks, the highly-pressurized mousse product can be suddenly and forcefully released all at once. This poses an injury hazard to whoever is holding the can, or nearby when the can explodes.
Henkel describes the hazard on its official recall notice as follows:
“…due to a potential packaging issue in which product could leak from the package under pressure, which creates a risk of explosion.”
How Many People Were Injured?
One injury was reported in connection with this recall. The person reported suffering bruises on their hand after a can of Osis Grip exploded. No other injuries were reported in the recall, but there were other incidents: 2 separate hair salons also complained to Henkel about the packaging defect.
