March 23, 2020 — C3 Manufacturing has issued a recall for about 1,100 Perfect Descent™ Auto Belay climbing devices due to a fall hazard.
Belay devices are used with climbing ropes to protect a climber by stopping a fall, or by safely lowering a climber on the rope.
The problem is that the belay device can loosen and cause slack on the climbing rope, allowing the climber to fall.
“Climbing while tethered to a malfunctioning belay can cause serious injury or death,” according to the recall notice posed on March 19 by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
This recall involves Perfect Descent Auto Belay model 220 Indoor, Outdoor, Speed Drive and Direct Drive auto belay climbing devices.
They were sold at Aerial Adventure Technologies nationwide and online at www.perfectdescent.com from February 2017 through April 2019 for between $1,800 and $2,100.
C3 Manufacturing is asking consumers to immediately stop using the recalled belay devices and contact the company for a free repair.
