On September 27, 2024, the CDC and FDA issued an update to report a total of 175 illnesses linked to Diamond Shruumz products in 33 states, including 70 people who were hospitalized and 3 deaths that were under investigation.
Prophet Premium Blends Recalls Diamond Shruumz
On June 27, 2024, Prophet Premium Blends announced a recall for Diamond Shruumz Infused Cones, Chocolate Bars, and Gummies (Micro- and Mega/Extreme-Dose) because the products contain Muscimol, a chemical found in mushrooms of the genus Amanita. Muscimol could be a potential cause of symptoms consistent with those observed in persons who became ill after eating Diamond Shruumz products.
Diamond Shruumz Microdosing Bars Linked to Illness Outbreak
In June 2024, health officials warned consumers to avoid Diamond Shruumz Microdosing Chocolate Bars, Cones, and Gummies after an outbreak of severe illnesses in more than a dozen states. The mushroom-infused products were sold nationwide.
Symptoms of Diamond Shruumz Poisoning
People who became ill after eating Diamond Shruumz products have reported a variety of severe symptoms, including:
- Seizures
- Decreased level of consciousness
- Respiratory failure
Other symptoms people have experienced include the following:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Abdominal pain
- Hallucinations
- Uncontrolled movements
- Abnormal heart rate (e.g., too fast or too slow)
- High or low blood pressure
- Excessive sweating or secretions
- Flushed skin
FDA Testing and Analysis
The FDA and state partners have collected multiple samples of Diamond Shruumz products for testing and analysis. Tests have discovered multiple illegal substances in these products, including O-acetylpsilocin, psilocin, kavalactones, pregabalin, and muscimol. These substances have been found in some, but not all, of the Diamond Shruumz products that were tested.
Additional sample analysis is ongoing, but as of June 25, 2024, FDA test results for two individual chocolate bars have identified the presence of the following:
- Diamond ShruumzTM Dark Chocolate Bar
- 4-acetoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine (4-acetoxy-DMT, also known as O-acetylpsilocin or psilacetin)
- desmethoxyyangonin
- dihydrokavain
- kavain
- Diamond ShruumzTM Birthday Cake Chocolate Bar
- 4-acetoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine (4-acetoxy-DMT, also known as O-acetylpsilocin or psilacetin)
Where Were They Sold?
Diamond Shruumz products were sold nationwide online and in person at a variety of retail locations, such as vape / smoke shops, stores that sell hemp-derived products such as CBD or delta-8 THC.
What is the Risk?
Mushroom-infused candy bars may appeal to children and teenagers. “Parents and caregivers should consider discussing the information in this advisory with their children and take extra care to avoid these products being consumed by younger people,” the FDA warns.

Anyone who ate these products and became ill should contact a healthcare provider and/or call the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222. Let them know you have recently consumed the Diamond Shruumz-brand Chocolate Bars, Cones, and/or Gummies.
