May 6, 2014 — The weight-loss supplements Slim Trim U and Natural Body Solution contain a hidden pharmaceutical drug ingredient, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
FDA warnings:
The ingredient is sibutramine, an appetite-suppressant drug that was marketed under the brand-namer Meridia until October 2010, when it was pulled off the market. The FDA was concerned because the SCOUT clinical trial found that patients on Meridia were 16% more likely to have a cardiovascular event than patients on a placebo. Side effects may include cardiovascular events, including heart attack, non-fatal stroke, cardiac arrest, and death.
The problem is that Slim Trum U and Natural Body Solutions are marketed as “all-natural” weight-loss supplements. Federal law prohibits pharmaceutical drugs in dietary supplements. Sibutramine was not listed on the ingredient label. Manufacturers claimed it had only herbal ingredients like bee pollen, Chinese yam, wolfberries, dandelion leaf, green tea extract, and more.
