October 4, 2013 — Officials from the Hawaii Department of Health are reporting that the ongoing shutdown of the U.S. federal government is impeding an investigation into the source of a liver injury epidemic in Hawaii.

Health officials in Hawaii have had trouble getting information from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which may hamper the investigation.
