August 29, 2015 — Just days after Inventure Foods recalled frozen vegetables that may be contaminated with Listeria, Hy-Vee grocery stores have recalled Summer Fresh Pasta Salad made with those vegetables.
The recalls have not been linked to any illnesses.
Hy-Vee sold the pasta salad in the salad bar and cold-case area of the grocery store. Customers would order the salad and receive the desired amount in a 16-oz (1-lb) or 32-oz (2-lb) clear plastic container marked with a label describing the product name, weight, and price.
Only products at a limited number of stores in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska and South Dakota are being recalled. The pasta salad was available from April 9 through April 27, 2015.
This year, Inventure Foods has issued two recalls for frozen fruits and vegetables that may be contaminated with Listeria. Last week, they recalled dozens of frozen vegetable products that were sold under the Fresh Frozen™ and Jamba® “At Home” brands.
Listeria infections are not usually very serious for healthy adults. Symptoms may include high fever, severe headache, muscle stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
Unfortunately, Listeria infections can easily become invasive and lead to life-threatening complications. The FDA warns:
“Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. … Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.”
