FDA Evaluating Rhabdomyolysis Risk
The FDA is evaluating a potential signals of a serious risk and new safety information linking DPP4 diabetes drugs and rhabdomyolysis. This potentially life-threatening kidney side effect was identified by the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) between April and June 2017.
Jentadueto and Pancreatic Cancer
Jentadueto contains a combination of metformin and linagliptin. It is an incretin mimetic, which means it lowers blood-sugar levels by mimicking hormones that stimulate the pancreas to make insulin.
The concern is that Jentadueto could over-stimulate the pancreas and cause inflammation (pancreatitis). The FDA has already issued warnings after receiving dozens of reports of this side effect in people on other incretin therapy medications.
In 2013, Diabetes published a study in which researchers autopsied pancreases from people on incretin therapy. They found evidence of pre-cancerous growths that could become malignant. In response, the FDA issued a Safety Communication for Jentadueto.
Hundreds of Incretin Therapy Lawsuits Centralized in MDL
As of January 2016, over 750 lawsuits involving pancreatic side effects of diabetes medications were centralized in a Multi-District Litigation (MDL No. 2452) in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California, In Re: Incretin Mimetics Products Liability Litigation.
What is the problem?
The Schmidt Firm, PLLC is nationally recognized as a class action law firm, but we are not filing a Jentadueto class action against Boehringer Ingelheim or Eli Lilly & Co. Instead, we are filing individual lawsuits on behalf of people who were seriously injured or needed surgery after developing pancreatic side effects:
- Pancreas inflammation (pancreatitis)
- Hemorrhagic and necrotizing pancreatitis
- Pre-cancerous growths (pancreatic duct metaplasia)
- Pancreatic cancer
About Class Actions
Class actions are designed to help a lot of people all at once. Everyone joins together and collectively seeks compensation for similar legal claims. Any compensation awarded by a lawsuit verdict or settlement is split equally among everyone in the lawsuit, after lawyers take a percentage.
Why Our Law Firm is Filing Individual Lawsuits as Opposed to a Class Action
In some class actions, lawyers charge massive fees after accepting a “low-ball” settlement, leaving very little for members of the class action to share. Because class actions are not designed to maximize compensation for people with severe injures, it is unlikely that one will be filed for people who had pancreatic cancer after taking Jentadueto.
Instead of a class action, our attorneys file individual lawsuits. We specialize in seeing compensation from pharmaceutical companies who sell dangerous medications and fail to warn about side effects. If you join this litigation, you could receive compensation for your injury, medical expenses, and more.
