Nature’s Universe Recalls Thinogenics Diet Pills
April 2014 — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Nature’s Universe have issued a recall for all lots of Thinogenics diet pills manufactured before February 6, 2014. The FDA discovered that the supplements contain sibutramine, an illegal undeclared ingredient that can interact with other medications you are taking or cause deadly side effects. If you own this product, do not use it and throw it away immediately.
FDA Warning for Sibutramine
Sibutramine, sold under the brand-name Meridia, is a prescription appetite-suppressing drug that was intended to treat obesity. It was banned in October 2010 due to safety concerns. In 2011, a study published in Diabetes discovered that it can increase your risk of heart attack and stroke by 16%.
The FDA published a Drug Safety Communication to warn:
“Sibutramine is known to substantially increase blood pressure and/or pulse rate in some patients and can present a significant risk for patients with a history of coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, or stroke. This product can also interact in life-threatening ways with other medications a consumer may be taking.”
