What is the Problem?

Oxycide Daily Disinfectant Cleaner is a powerful chemical for sanitizing hospitals, but it may have harmful health effects for workers who use it without adequate protective equipment.

Oxycide Class Action Lawsuit Filed in Minnesota

In February 2020, the first OxyCide Class Action Lawsuit (PDF) was filed against Ecolab Inc. on behalf of hospital employees who used Oxycide.

The class action is not designed to maximize compensation for people who were injured by Oxycide. Instead, class action lawyers accuse Ecolab of refusing to recall Oxycide or warn hospitals about the risk.

What is the Risk?

  • Asthma
  • Breathing problems
  • Skin burns
  • Shortness of breath
  • Dizziness
  • Coughing
  • Nausea
  • Burning eyes, throat, nose
  • Runny nose
  • Long-term health problems

What is PAA?

Oxycide contains hydrogen peroxide and acetic acid. When these two chemicals combine, they create peracetic acid — also known as peroxyacetic acid or PAA. Even low exposures to PAA can cause serious respiratory symptoms and skin irritation.

Health Effects of PAA Exposure in Hospital Workers

In a recent study of hospital workers in Pennsylvania, researchers linked Oxycite with mucous membrane irritation and respiratory health problems in health care workers. The rate of asthma was also 3-times higher than the general U.S. population.

The study, “Health problems and disinfectant product exposure among staff at a large multispecialty hospital” was published in October 2017 by the American Journal of Infection Control (AJIC).

Can I Join a Class Action Lawsuit?

The Schmidt Firm, PLLC is nationally recognized as a class action law firm, but we are not currently filing an Oxycide class action. Instead, we are filing individual lawsuits for people who suffered side effects.

About Class Actions

Class actions lawsuits are generally filed by one person on behalf of a much larger group of people with the same legal claim. If compensation is awarded, everyone who joins the lawsuit shares the payout.

Why Our Law Firm is Filing Individual Lawsuits as Opposed to a Class Action

Class actions can be useful when everyone is seeking a relatively small payout — but for people with medical bills and long-term health problems, the payout from a class action may not be enough.

Instead of a class action, our law firm is filing individual Oxycide lawsuits so we can focus on maximizing compensation for people with the most severe injuries. If you decide to file a lawsuit, we may be able to help you seek justice and compensation for your pain and suffering, lost income, medical bills, decreased quality of life, and more.
