Paragard Lawsuits

Paragard lawsuits have been filed by more than 200 women who were injured when their Paragard Intrauterine Device (IUD) broke when it was being removed, causing complications and injuries, such as surgery to remove the broken piece of the device, infertility and pain.

How Many Women Have Been Injured?

In August 2021, an investigative report by KATV.com, an ABC News affiliate in Los Angeles, found 3,290 reports of Paragard IUDs breaking, with at least 2,000 reports classified as “serious.”

What is the Problem?

Teva Pharmaceuticals updated the label on Paragard in 2019 to include the following warning: “Breakage of an embedded Paragard during non-surgical removal has been reported.”

However, no effort was made to inform women who were already implanted with Paragard about this risk.

Can I Join a Class Action Lawsuit?

The Schmidt Firm, PLLC is nationally recognized as a class action law firm, but we are not filing a Paragard class action at this time. Instead, we are filing individual lawsuits for women who were injured or needed surgery when their Paragard IUD broke when it was being removed.

About Class Actions

Class action lawsuits are useful when a large group of people are seeking compensation. However, class actions can have disadvantages for individuals who have been seriously injured by defective medical devices, such as IUDs.

Why Our Law Firm is Filing Individual Lawsuits as Opposed to a Class Action

Hundreds of lawsuits have already been filed by women who were injured by a Paragard IUD, but not as part of a class action. Instead, most of these cases are individual Paragard lawsuits that have been centralized into a single federal court.

In RE: Paragard IUD Products Liability Litigation — Multi-District Litigation (MDL 2974) in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, under U.S. District Judge Leigh Martin.
