$5.5 Million Award for Pelvic Mesh Lawsuit

In July 2012, a jury in Bakersfield, California awarded Christine Scott and her husband $5.5 million award for their vaginal mesh lawsuit. After Mrs. Scott was implanted with C.R. Can a Pelvic Mesh Lawyer Help Me?

Our pelvic mesh lawyers will review your case for free. If you qualify for a lawsuit, we can also help you file a lawsuit and seek compensation for your injuries. However, it is essential that you act quickly — you have a limited amount of time to file a lawsuit. Every state has a deadline for medical device lawsuits called a “statute of limitations.” The time-limit is usually two to three years after a substantial injury occurs, but it can be more or less. It is a good idea to talk to a pelvic mesh lawyer if you think you may qualify for a lawsuit.

You could receive financial compensation for:

  • Pain and suffering
  • Past and future medical expenses
  • Lost income
  • Decreased quality of life
  • Permanent injuries
  • Loss of consortium for your spouse
  • Punitive damages

Pelvic Mesh Lawsuits

As of July 2012, there are 650 pelvic mesh lawsuits pending in federal court. As more and more women contact pelvic mesh lawyers, more lawsuits continue to be filed. The following pelvic mesh manufacturers are facing lawsuits in a federal Multidistrict Litigation (MDL):

  • C.R. Bard
  • Johnson & Johnson / Ethicon
  • Boston Scientific Corp.
  • American Medical Systems
  • Coloplast

Side Effects of Pelvic Mesh

Pelvic mesh is a hammock-like device that is implanted inside a woman’s pelvis to help support sagging muscles. This is a treatment for Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) and Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP), two conditions that often occur after multiple pregnancies.

The most common side effect of vaginal mesh is the risk of erosion. This occurs when the edges of the mesh wear into nearby tissues or organs. Over time, the mesh may actually perforate the vagina, intestines, bladder, blood vessels, or other organs. Most women require surgery to correct the condition, although even with multiple surgeries, some complications may be permanent.

Side effects and complications of pelvic mesh include:

  • Erosion
  • Pelvic pain
  • Infection, which may be life-threatening
  • Perforation of bladder, intestine, blood vessels, or vagina
  • Bleeding (may be a symptom of perforation)
  • Scarring from multiple surgeries
  • Shrinkage of the mesh
  • Disfigurement of the vagina
  • Pain during sexual intercourse
  • Nerve damage
  • And more
