What is the Problem?
A few seconds of using the Max-Lux Safe-T-Lite UV WAND can expose the user or bystanders to dangerous levels of ultraviolet-C (UV-C) radiation. This may cause injuries, including skin damage (erythema) and eye damage (photokeratitis). According to the FDA:
“The product emits a level of radiation more than 3,000 times stronger than what is recommended by an international group of experts for an ultraviolet exposure limit at a distance of about two inches.”
How Much Radiation Does It Emit?

Symptoms of Eye Injuries from UV Exposure
Photokeratitis is the type of eye injury that is associated with exposure to UV-C radiation. The symptoms include severe eye pain and a feeling of having sand in the eyes. In some cases, people are unable to use their eyes for one or two days. There is a low risk of very serious injuries, like cataracts or permanent vision loss (blindness).
