June 22, 2023 — About 36,200 steam humidifiers were recalled after fires caused more than $10 million in property damage.
This recall was issued by the manufacturer, Research Products Steam Humidifiers.
Only humidifiers with “D”-shaped electrode connector wires are part of the recall. This connector can looses, causing electrical arcing and/or overheating, which poses a fire hazard to consumers.
The recalled humidifiers were sold under the brand-names:
- AprilAire® (Model 800, 801, 865, 866)
- Carrier® (Model HUMXXSTM3034)
- Bryant® (Model HUMXXSTM3034)
- York® (Model S1-STEAM 8000T01
- Coleman® (Model S1-STEAM 8000T01)
- Luxaire® (Model S1-STEAM 8000T01)
There were 103 reports of the recalled humidifiers overheating, including 10 incidents involving smoke or residential fires, which caused more than $10 million in property damage.
