Suboxone Lawsuits Centralized in MDL

In February 2024, judges created a Multi-District Litigation (MDL) to centralize Suboxone lawsuits into a single federal court, under one judge.

All of the lawsuits accuse drug-makers of failing to warn patients about the risk of tooth decay from Suboxone. Like a class action lawsuit, the MDL streamlines complex litigation, helping lawyers resolve a lot of similar lawsuits as efficiently as possible.

Where Is the Suboxone MDL?

The Suboxone MDL is pending in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio under Judge J. Philip Calabrese — IN RE: Suboxone (Buprenorphine/Naloxone) Film Products Liability LitigationCase Number 1:24-md-03092.

What Do Suboxone Lawsuits Claim?

Lawsuits allege that Suboxone is naturally acidic. This can lead to tooth decay because patients must place Suboxone in their mouth (either under the tongue or inside their cheek) for 5-10 minutes.

People who are recovering from opioid addiction commonly use Suboxone for months or even years at a time. Over time, prolonged acidity in the mouth can lead to severe, permanent dental problems.

Suboxone Users May Suffer from Tooth Decay

Another problem is that Suboxone may cause dry mouth, which further exacerbates acidity in the mouth. This can destroy tooth enamel, creating conditions in the mouth that lead to cavities, oral infections, tooth loss, gum disease, and other dental problems.

Can I Join a Class Action Lawsuit?

The Schmidt Firm, PLLC is nationally recognized as a class action law firm. We are filing individual lawsuits for people who were diagnosed with tooth decay, cavities, and teeth problems from Suboxone and other oral buprenorphine medications, such as Zubsolv and Belbuca.

About Class Actions

Class actions are not commonly used to resolve a large number of injury lawsuits involving defective medications. Instead, people who were injured file individual lawsuits, which are centralized into a single federal court, under one judge, in a Multi-District Litigation (MDL).
