Symbyax Class Action Lawsuit

Symbyax Class Action Lawsuit

Symbyax is a powerful antidepressant and antipsychotic drug, but it has severe side effects. The FDA has issued warnings about severe skin reactions, suicidal behavior, and increased rates of death among dementia patients.

Symbyax and Birth Defects

Symbyax contains a combination of an antidepressant called fluoxetine (Prozac) and an anti-psychotic called olanzapine (Zyprexa). It carries “Black Box” warnings about suicidal behavior in young adults. Symbyax also increases the risk of death for elderly people with dementia-related psychosis.

Symbyax and Birth Defects

Symbyax is a “Pregnancy Category C” drug, meaning the risk of birth defects can’t be ruled out. During pregnancy, fluoxetine passes through the placenta.

When Symbyax is taken in the last trimester, it could increase the risk of birth defects. The FDA has issued warnings about a possible 6-fold increased risk of Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn (PPHN), a life-threatening problem that occurs when the baby does not start breathing on its own immediately after birth.

Symbyax and Skin Reactions

In May 2016, the FDA issued a Safety Communication after receiving nearly two dozen reports of a rare but serious skin reaction.

The potentially deadly side effect is called Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms (DRESS). It causes severe inflammation and rash that spreads all over the body. Other symptoms may include fever and enlarged lymph nodes. The FDA warns:

“DRESS can result in injury to organs including the liver, kidneys, lungs, heart, or pancreas, and can lead to death. DRESS is a potentially fatal drug reaction with a mortality rate of up to 10%.”

What is the problem?

The Schmidt Firm, PLLC is nationally recognized as a class action law firm, but we are not filing a Symbyax class action. Instead, we are filing individual lawsuits against drug-makers for failing to warn about side effects like birth defects, skin reactions, and more.

About Class Actions

Class actions are beneficial when a lot of people have similar legal claims. Everyone joins together, collectively seeks compensation, and shares the payout. They are commonly used to seek refunds for defective products.

Why Our Law Firm is Filing Individual Lawsuits as Opposed to a Class Action

Class actions can have disadvantages for people with severe injuries. They may have to accept “low-ball” settlements, higher legal fees, or never see their case go to trial.

Our lawyers file individual lawsuits so we can focus on maximizing compensation for people with the most serious injuries. If you qualify to join this litigation, you could receive compensation for your medical expenses, pain and suffering, disability, and more.
