Why Did Decathlon Recall Van Rysel GRVL AF Bikes?
In October 2026, Decathlon America recalled about 1,150 Van Rysel GRVL AF gravel bicycles that were sold at REI between March 2025 and August 2026.
The problem has been linked to the front lock nut, which is a metal part of the bike that secures the front wheel onto the axle and frame of the bicycle. If it fails mid-ride, riders can lose control and crash, which poses a risk of serious injury or death. According to the recall:
“The recalled bicycles’ front lock nut can loosen during use, causing the front wheel to dislodge or loosen over time, posing a crash hazard.”
What Is the Problem?
Decathlo warns that a loose front nut can lead to a loss of steering control or a detached component, such as the front wheel. This poses a fall and crash hazard for riders. No injuries were reported, but the recall warns riders about a risk of serious injury or death from a crash hazard.
The CPSC is also urging people to report any injuries related to this product at SaferProducts.gov.
Which Van Rysel Models Are Included?
The recall covers adult multi-terrain gravel bicycles that were sold at REI in sizes x-small, small, medium, large and x-large. The recall involves bicycles with these Product IDs:
- GRVL AF Sword Brown: model number 8911304 (REI: GRVL AF 2 Sword, Coriander Brown). Product IDs 5327219 through 5327223
- GRVL AF Apex Beige: model number 8911305 (REI: GRVL AF 2 Apex, Cream Beige). Product IDs 5327224 through 5327228
- GRVL AF Sword Pink: model number 8911308 (REI: GRVL AF 2 Sword, Granite Pink). Product IDs 5327239 through 5327243
- GRVL AF GRX Black: model number 8929130 (REI: GRVL AF 2 GRX, Graphite Black). Product IDs 5476620 through 5476624
How Do I Find the Prpduct ID?
The Product ID may be found on the product label under the frame, and it begins with the number 5. According to the CPSC, the Product ID and model name can also be found on the barcode sticker, which is on the frame near the bottom bracket.
Where Were They sold?
The recalled bikes were sold at REI Co-op stores nationwide and online at REI.com from March 2025 through August 2026 for between $1,400 and $2,300. They were manufactured by Decathlon America LLC, a company based in San Francisco, California.
What Should I Do If I Own a Recalled Van Rysel Bike?
The CPSC and Decathlon is urging owners to stop using the bike immediately and take it to REI Co-op for a free inspection and repair of the front fork assembly.
