Brachial Neuritis and Vaccines

Brachial neuritis is a rare but severe vaccine side effect that involves sudden inflammation of the brachial plexus, which is the bundle of nerves that runs from the neck down the arm. Up to 15% of cases have been reported to occur with vaccines.

Fortunately, most people recover from brachial neuritis within 6-18 months. Some people have residual weakness. In rare cases, patients may need surgery to treat permanent nerve damage in the arms.

Characteristic symptoms of brachial neuritis:

  • Deep, steady, often severe aching pain in the shoulder and upper arm
  • Pain followed 3-10 days later by weakness ant atrophy in upper arm muscles
  • Sensory loss (numbness)
  • May occur on the same side, opposite side, or both arms as the injection site

What is the problem?

The Schmidt Firm, PLLC is nationally recognized as a class action law firm. However, instead of filing a class action, we are reviewing cases involving brachial neuritis from vaccines and filing individual claims with a federal compensation program.

The problem is that pharmaceutical companies are shielded from most lawsuits involving vaccine injuries. To help victims of vaccine injuries, Congress created the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP) in the 1980s.

Funded by a $0.75 tax on all vaccines, the VICP has paid out nearly $3 billion to thousands of people who were injured by vaccine side effects. Each claimant is eligible for up to $250,000. There are strict filing deadlines, so it is a good idea to talk to an attorney as soon as you think you may have a claim.

Compensation for Brachial Neuritis Caused by Vaccines

The VICP specifically recognizes brachial neuritis as a side effect of the tetanus vaccine, including DTaP, DTP, Td, or TT. In recent years, they have also provided compensation to people who developed brachial neuritis after receiving the seasonal flu vaccine. Other vaccines linked to brachial neuritis include HPV and Hepatitis B.
