What is Striant?
Striant is a buccal system for delivering testosterone through mucous membranes in the mouth. Striant increases the risk of blood clots in the legs, also known as Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT), by thickening the blood, increasing the number of red blood cells, and elevating blood pressure. When platelets coagulate into a blood clot, they can obstruct blood vessels to vital organs — especially in men who already have narrow arteries due to aging, heart disease, or other risk-factors.

In early 2014, several alarming studies linking testosterone and heart attack prompted the FDA to issue a Drug Safety Communication and investigate the heart risks of testosterone.
Dr. Steve Nissen, Chief Cardiologist at the Cleveland Clinic, warned that the long-term risks of testosterone are unknown. This is concerning because testosterone replacement therapy is a lifetime commitment. According to Dr. Nissen:
“What’s going on is a giant experiment with American men’s health at stake, because we don’t have the long-term data on the safety of these products.”
