June 14, 2017 — Cycling Sports Group Inc. has recalled certain GT mountain bicycles because the handlebars can crack and cause a rider to lose control and fall off.
The recall was posted by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on June 8. No injuries were reported.
The problem was identified by the GT team during ongoing product testing. According to the manufacturer:
“The handlebars may develop small fatigue cracks over time, which if not identified, may continue to grow larger and eventually lead to a fracture of the handlebars.”
The recall involves the following models:
- 2017 GT Karakoram Sport
- 2017 GT Karakoram Comp
- 2017 GT Aggressor Sport
- 2017 GT Aggressor Comp
- 2017 GT Aggressor Expert
About 1,000 bikes were recalled in the U.S. and another 240 in Canada. They were sold from June 2016 to August 2017 for $440 to $800.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled mountain bikes and contact an authorized GT dealer or the manufacturer to schedule a free repair of the handlebar and stem.
