Kimchi Recalled for Listeria Risk
In July 2021, 5000 Years Foods Inc., of Chicago, Illinois, recalled several types of cabbage kimchi that may be contaminated with Listeria bacteria.
What is the Problem?
5000 Years Foods issued the recall after FDA tests were positive for Listeria monocytogenes bacteria in the production facility. No illnesses were reported as of July 13, 2021.
What Kimchi Was Recalled?
5000 Years Foods recalled the following kimchi products:
- Sliced Cabbage Kimchi
- Whole Cabbage Kimchi
- Julrado Whole Cabbage Kimchi
- Julrado Sliced Cabbage Kimchi
- No MSG Whole Cabbage Kimchi
- No MSG Sliced Cabbage Kimchi
- No MSG Julrado Whole Cabbage Kimchi
- No MSG Julrado Sliced Cabbage Kimchi
- White Kimchi
- Baby Napa Kimchi
Where Was It Sold?
The recalled kimchi was distributed to retailers inIllinois, and also further distributors who may have sold it to retail stores nationwide.
The kimchi was sold under the brand-name 5000 Years Foods®. The products were sold in 5-gallon plastic tubs, and 128-ounce, 64-ounce, 32-ounce, and 16-ounce glass jars. The containers are labeled with the product code “09052021” through “09252021” on top of the lid.
