BLONGKY Electric Car Kettles Linked to Severe Burn Injuries

In November 2025, safety officials warned people to immediately stop using defective Portable Electric Car Kettles that were distributed on Amazon and Walmart by BLONGKY, a seller that is based in China.

What Happened?

At least 9 people suffered severe burn injuries when they opened the car kettle and it spewed hot liquid or steam, or the lid failed and the top opened, spilling the extremely hot liquid contents onto their body.

Has a Recall Been Announced?

No. BLONGKY “has been unresponsive to CPSC requests for a recall or information about this product,” according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

Where Were They Sold?

BLONGKY Portable Electric Car Kettles were sold nationwide in the U.S. on Amazon.com and Walmart.com. The defective car kettles were also sold by 3rd-party sellers on other websites, like eBay.com.

What is the Problem?

The defective BLONGKY Portable Electric Car Kettles have been linked to at least 9 severe burn injuries, according to the CPSC:

“The car kettles can unexpectedly spew steam or hot water when opened by a consumer and can also burn consumers when the lid mechanism fails and the top unexpectedly opens.”

How Many People Were Burned?

There have been at least 11 reports of incidents where a BLONGKY Car Kettle spewed hot steam or liquid, including 9 people who suffered 2nd-degree burn injuries, according to the CPSC warning.

What is a Car Kettle?

Car electric kettles are small, portable mugs that can boil water or keep liquids warm, such as coffee and tea. They are also called “portable electric kettles,” “electric coffee mugs,” or “travel tea kettles.”

Car kettles look more like a coffee mug thermos than a traditional tea kettle. They are designed to plug into a 12V power supply in a car. Some portable electric kettles can also plug into a USB power supply.

How To Identify BLONGKY Car Kettles

The car kettles were sold under the BLONGKY brand-name. There are two models in the recall — FCC 390 Pro, in taupe (K-Taupe) and white (K-White). The model number is on the front of the car kettle.

What Should I Do?

BLONGKY is not offering a refund or other remedy to customers. Instead, the CPSC urges consumers to immediately stop using the defective car kettles, following local hazardous waste procedures.
