October 6, 2022 — Dozens of fully-cooked, ready-to-eat meat products were recalled by Behrmann Meat and Processing Inc. due to a risk of Listeria contamination.
On September 24, Behrmann recalled approximately 87,382 pounds of meat products that pose a risk of food poisoning with Listeria monocytogenes.
Some of the recalled meats include Smokehouse Pork, Pulled Pork in BBQ Sauce, Canadian Bacon, Cured Pork Loin, Cured Pork Chops, Cured Bone-In Ham, Bacon Strips, Beef Wieners, Smoked Pork Steaks, Snack Sticks, Summer Sausage, Polish Sausage, and more.
The various meat products were produced from July 7, 2022 through September 9, 2022 and shipped to retailers and wholesalers in Illinois, Kentucky, and Missouri.
No illnesses were reported, but both the finished products and the facility tested positive for Listeria, according to the USDA Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS).
Infections with Listeria can cause symptoms on the same day as a person eats contaminated food, but it can take up to 10 weeks for symptoms to appear.
The symptoms may include a fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, convulsions, or diarrhea. Pregnant women may also suffer a miscarriage, stillbirth, premature delivery, or life-threatening infection of the newborn.
