Frozen Biscuit Dough Recall
On December 29, 2017, T. Marzetti Company announced a recall for several brands of frozen biscuit dough due to a possible risk of food poisoning with Listeria monocytogenes. No illnesses have been reported.
The recall involves frozen biscuit dough products that were distributed in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia, including all “best-by” dates of the following products:

What is the problem?
Frozen biscuit dough has baking instructions and it is not sold ready-to-eat. Baking the biscuits should kill Listeria and reduce the risk of infection, but there is still a risk that a person who touches the dough before it is baked could still be infected with Listeria.
Listeria Food Poisoning
Infections with Listeria monocytogenes can be very serous or even fatal, especially for young children, elderly adults, and people with vulnerable immune systems. The FDA warns:
“Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.”
