4.8 Million BlendJet Blenders Recalled for Fire & Injury Hazards

In December 2023, BlendJet recalled about 4.8 million BlendJet 2 Portable Blenders that can catch on fire or cause laceration injuries when the blades break off.

What is the Problem?

The recalled BlendJet Blenders can overheat and catch on fire. The blender blades can also break off, posing laceration hazards to consumers.

How Many People Were Injured?

BlendJet said it received about 49 reports of minor burns and 1 report of a laceration injury. The company said “none of the reported incidents resulted in serious injury or significant property damage.”

$150,000 in Property Damage From BlendJet Blenders

There were also 329 reports of the blades breaking while the blender was in use, plus another 17 reports of the blender overheating or catching on fire, resulting in about $150,000 of property damage.

Where Were They Sold?

BlendJet 2 Portable Blenders were sold nationwide at Costco, Walmart, Target and other stores and online at BlendJet.com from October 2020 through November 2023 for between $50 and $75.

What Should I Do?

Immediately stop using your BlendJet 2 Portable Blender and check if it is being recalled. If so, contact BlendJet for a free replacement base and lid.

How Long Did BlendJet Know About Safety Problems?

BlendJet said they “updated the base of the BlendJet 2 to feature thicker blades and an improved electrical configuration.” These updates were incorporated “many months ago” into newly-manufactured BlendJet 2 blenders, according to a press release on December 28, 2023.

When Did BlendJet Fix The Problem?

The company said the “vast majority” of people who bought a BlendJet 2 Portable Blender in November 2023 or afterwards received the updated base with their blender.

Even so, the company is asking customers to check if their blender has an updated base, because the recall was not announced until December 28, 2023.

How To Determine If Your BlendJet 2 Was Recalled

Any BlendJet 2 with a serial number that begins with 5543 or a greater number is not subject to this recall, as it already has an updated base.

People who own a BlendJet 2 Portable Blender can check if it is being recalled by entering the serial number of the unit at the website: https://blendjet.com/safetyandrecall or by calling BlendJet at (844) 334-0562 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. ET Mon-Fri.
