Can-Am Screw Jacks Recalled for Crush Hazard
In December 2020, Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP) recalled hundreds of Can-Am® Off-Road screw jacks due to a risk of severe injury or death.
What is the Problem?
The recalled Can-Am screw jacks can collapse can cause a lifted vehicle to fall on a consumer, resulting in severe injuries or death to anyone under the vehicle or nearby.
What is the Manufacturing Defect?
The problem is linked to a manufacturing defect, according to the Australian recall notice: “A manufacturing defect may cause the jack’s welded nut to strip the thread from the screw when lifting a vehicle, this may lead to the jack collapsing.”
Was My Jack Stand Recalled?
The recalled screw jacks are used to lift an off-road vehicle so that a tire can be changed.
They were sold as an accessory for Maverick X3 side-by-side vehicles. The jacks were also sold by Can-Am dealers and online from October 2017 through October 2020 for around $500.
The recalled jacks are silver with a black base. They are labeled with the brand-name “Can-Am” on the arm of the screw jack.
