Cannondale Recalls Front Racks on Treadwell Bicycles After Rider Suffers Head Injury
In September 2020, Cannondale warned consumers to immediately stop riding Treadwell bicycles with front racks because the rack can fall off and cause the front wheel to stop suddenly.
In a recall notice, Cannondale said they received “a few reports” of problems with the bolts that attach the front rack to certain Treadwell bicycles.
If the rack falls off, it can abruptly stop the front wheel and cause a rider to fall. The problem poses a risk of severe injury and death.
Cannondale reported 2 injuries linked to the problem — one person who suffered a head injury (concussion) and bruising, and another person who suffered minor bruises and scrapes.
The recalled rack has a black metal frame and a bamboo tray. “ISO11243:2016 YUENI MAX 10KG” is printed on the bamboo tray.
Cannondale sold about 1,975 of the racks in the U.S. from April 2019 through June 2020. The racks were included as original equipment on certain bicycles that sold for $950-$2,750. On other bicycles, the front racks were sold separately for about $100.
Cannondale Recalls CAADX Bicycles After Spinal Injuries & Death Reported
In July 2019, Cannondale recalled about 9,700 Cannondale CAADX Cyclocross Bicycles because the front fork can break, which poses a fall hazard with the risk of death and serious injury.
Cycling Sports Group received 11 reports of the bicycle’s front fork breaking worldwide, including 5 reports in the United States. Seven incidents resulted in serious injuries, including concussions and a spinal injury, and there was one death.
The recalled bicycles were sold by authorized Cannondale dealers nationwide from August 2012 to August 2017 for $1,000-$2,220.
