UPDATE: Another Lawsuit Filed for Conair Hair Dryer Burn Injuries

In March 2020, Conair Corp. was hit with a lawsuit in New Jersey from consumers who accuse the company of selling defective hair dryers that can catch on fire, spark, and cause burn injuries.

The class action lawsuit was filed in New Jersey by two women who purchased Conair’s Infiniti Pro 1875-watt hair dryer (259/279 Series).

The hair dryer costs $24.99 to $39.99 and was sold at Sam’s Club, Walmart, Target, CVS Pharmacies, and other stores nationwide.

The lawsuit (PDF) was filed on March 9, 2020 in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey — Jennifer B. and Karen L., v. Conair CorporationCase Number 3:20-cv-02543-FLW-TJB.

Conair Hair Dryer Lawsuit Filed in Illinois

In February 2020, a lawsuit was filed against Conair Corp. by consumers who accused the company of selling hair dryers that spark and catch on fire.

The lawsuit was filed by two women who suffered burn injuries on their arms and wrists when their Conair Infiniti Pro Hair Stylers (Series 259Y) sparked and caught on fire in 2018.

They claim the hair dryers have defective “safety plugs” that can malfunction and fail to prevent sparks. Furthermore, they wouldn’t have purchased the hair dryers if they had known about the hazard.

The class action is seeking to represent everyone in Illinois who bought the Series 259Y Conair Hair Dryers from February 2019 to the present.

The lawsuit (PDF) was filed on February 18, 2020 in the Circuit Court of Cook County (Illinois) — Emily H. et al. v. Conair Corp.Case Number 2020L001943.

Conair Recalls Infiniti Pro Hair Dryers for Fire Hazard

In October 2013, Conair recalled 570,000 Infiniti Pro Hair Dryers (Series 259 and 279) because an electrical short-circuit can cause small hot coils to fly out of the hair dryer, “posing a burn or fire hazard.” There were 19 reports of hot coils flying out of the hair dryer and 3 people who suffered minor burns that needed medical attention.

Conair Pays $5.4 Million Class Action Settlement for Hair Dryer Fire Hazard

In 2016, Conair reached a $5.4 million class action settlement for consumers in California and New York. The lawsuit claims that certain Conair Infiniti Pro hair dryers are defective because they can catch on fire or emit sparks during normal use.

This settlement is now closed. However, consumers in other states have filed similar lawsuits seeking compensation from Conair for the purchase of Infiniti Pro hair dryers that were defective and dangerous.
