July 12, 2017 — Core Health & Fitness, of Vancouver, Washington, has issued a safety recall for about 3,600 pulley exercise machines after 31 reports of injuries.
The problem is that the height-adjustment carriage assembly can loosen and fall on a user, resulting in impact or laceration hazards.
There have been 48 incidents and 31 reports of people who were injured when the height-adjustment carriage fell unexpectedly. The injuries include cuts that required stitches or staples.
The recall involves 5 models of the Inspiration® Cable Cross Over and Dual Adjustable Pulley exercise machines. They were primarily used in gyms and fitness centers and were sold in the U.S. since 2001.
The recall affects following exercise machines:
- Core Inspiration Cable Cross Over
- Core Inspiration Cable Cross Over 14
- Core Inspiration Dual Adjustable Pulley
- Core Inspiration Cable Cross Over 9 Station
- Core Inspiration Cable Cross Over 5 Station
The machines are stainless steel and have an adjustable pulley. The pulleys have with single hand adjustment designs and high-low cable positioning components.
Dual Adjustable Pulley machines are marked with the brand-name “Inspirtation.” Cable Cross Over models are marked with the brand-names “Star Trac” or “Nautilus.”
The recalled exercise machines were sold nationwide in the U.S. by Unisen distributors from 2001 to 2010, and at Core dealerships from November 2010 to April 2017, costing between $2,700 and $8,400.
