Oscar Mayer Turkey Bacon Recalled for Listeria Risk

In July 2025, Kraft Heinz issued a nationwide recall for about 367,812 pounds of Oscar Mayer® Turkey Bacon Original due to a risk of food poisoning with Listeria bacteria.

Did Anyone Get Sick?

No illnesses were reported when the recall was announced on July 2, 2025, but people who eat turkey bacon that is contaminated with Listeria can develop serious or even fatal infections.

Health officials are concerned that some of this recalled product may still be in consumers’ homes, which is an issue because Listeria can survive under refrigeration or freezer temperatures.

How To Identify Recalled Turkey Bacon

The recall involves fully-cooked “Oscar Mayer Turkey Bacon Original” products that were produced from April 24, 2025 until June 11, 2025.

The recalled turkey bacon was sold in 12-oz. packages, but the recall also includes multi-packs containing 3 or 4 individual packages.

These products were sold nationwide in the U.S., and also exported to the British Virgin Islands and Hong Kong, according to the recall.

The items can be identified by the following information:

  • Oscar Mayer Turkey Bacon Original (12-oz.) — UPC 071871548601 printed under the barcode, Use-By Dates ranging from July 18, 2025 to August 2, 2025, and Lot Code RS40.
  • Oscar Mayer Turkey Bacon Original (36-oz.) Three-packs containing 3 x 12-oz. packages, with UPC 071871548748 printed under the barcode, Use-By Dates ranging from July 23, 2025 to September 4, 2025, and Lot Codes RS19, RS40, RS42.
  • Oscar Mayer Turkey Bacon Original (48-oz.) — Four-packs containing 4 x 12-oz. packages, with UPC 071871548793 printed under the barcode, Use-By Dates ranging from July 18, 2025 to September 4, 2025, and Lot Codes RS19, RS40, RS42.

What is the Risk?

The turkey bacon recall was announced by the USDA Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS), which warned about a risk of serious and sometimes fatal infections with Listeria monocytogenes.

Anyone can get sick, but people at the highest risk include pregnant women and their newborns, elderly adults, and people with weakened immune systems. These people are more likely to suffer serious complications or death, according to health officials:

“An invasive infection spreads beyond the gastrointestinal tract. In pregnant women, the infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery or life-threatening infection of the newborn.”

What Should I Do?

If you purchased the recalled Oscar Mayer Turkey Bacon products, return it to the store where it was purchased. If you (or a loved one) ate this product, be vigilant for the symptoms of Listeria.

Signs & Symptoms of Listeria

People who ate a contaminated product could develop symptoms of Listeria right away, but it can sometimes take up to 10 weeks for symptoms to appear. These symptoms may include:

  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Fever
  • Muscle aches
  • Headache
  • Stiff neck
  • Confusion
  • Loss of balance
  • Convulsions
  • Sometimes diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms
  • Pregnant women may suffer a miscarriage, stillbirth, or life-threatening infection in the newborn baby
