Crux Pressure Cooker Lawsuit Filed by Burned Man

In December 2025, a lawsuit was filed against Sensio and Crux Kitchen LLC by a man from Missouri who was severely burned by a explosion of scalding-hot food when the lid unexpectedly detached.

What Happened?

The plaintiff, James H., is a resident of Columbia, Missouri, who claims that he was burned in December 2020, while using a Crux® 8-Quart Electric Pressure Cooker (Model No. M-60B23G).

He claims that the lid unexpectedly detached when the pressure cooker was still under pressure. This caused the scalding-hot liquid and steam to exploded out of the pot and onto his body.

He suffered burn injuries to his face, torso, and arms. These injuries caused him extreme pain, permanent scarring, and disfigurement.

His lawsuit accuses Sensio of failing to issue a timely recall. The pressure cooker that caused his injuries was eventually recalled in August 2023, nearly three years after he was severely burned.

The lawsuit was filed on December 1, 2025 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri (Northern Division) — Case Number 2:25-cv-04271-WJE.

Crux Pressure Cooker Recall

In August 2023, Sensio Inc. announced a recall for about 860,000 pressure cookers, including Crux-branded products, due to a burn hazard.

According to the recall, the lid can unlock and be removed during use, causing hot contents to unexpectedly splash out and burn people.

Dozens of burn injuries were reported in the recall:

“Sensio has received 63 reports of incidents, including 61 burn injuries, some of which involved second and third degree burns to the face, torso, arms, and hands.”

How To Identify Recalled Pressure Cookers

The recall involved the Crux® 8-Quart Electric Pressure Cooker (Item Number 14721), and other pressure cookers that were sold under the brand-names Bella®, Bella Pro Series®, and Cooks®.

To identify these recalled pressure cookers, visit the recall website at https://recall.sensiobrands.com/.

Can I Get a Refund?

Yes. Sensio is offering a refund to all qualifying customers of $43.00 for electric units and $9.00 for stove-top units. If you paid more and provide satisfactory proof of purchase, you may qualify for a larger refund.

Where Were They Sold?

These pressure cookers were sold at JCPenney, Kohl’s, Lowe’s, Macy’s and Target stores nationwide, and online at Amazon.com and other websites from September 2015 through September 2020.

What Should I Do?

Hundreds of lawsuits have been filed in recent years by people who were burned by defective pressure cookers. These lawsuits accuse manufacturers of selling products with “safety features” that failed to actually lock the lid and prevent it from opening. Many people have suffered extremely severe burn injuries from pressure cookers.
