September 6, 2023 — A woman from Arizona who was burned by a Bella Pressure Cooker has filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer, Sensio Inc.
The plaintiff, Christy F., claims that she was severely burned on August 9, 2021, when the safety features failed on her Bella 8-Qt. Electric Pressure Cooker (Model M-80B30AG).
She specifically alleges that the lid failed to lock when the pressure cooker was under pressure, despite numerous safety features that Sensio claimed would prevent this type of accident from occurring.
Her lawsuit cited numerous examples where Sensio advertised the safety features of her pressure cookers, which failed to work. For example: “When cooking under pressure, the lid is locked and cannot be opened once pressure is reached.”
When she twisted open the lid, hot food and liquid blew out and caused “serious and substantial burn injuries,” her lawsuit claims.
Just a few weeks after she filed her lawsuit, Sensio recalled more than 860,000 pressure cookers, including Bella, Bella Pro Series, Cooks, and Crux Electric and Stovetop Pressure Cookers due to a burn hazard.
According to the recall, the “lid can unlock and be removed during use, causing the hot contents to unexpectedly splash out, posing a burn hazard to consumers.”
Her Bella Electric Pressure Cooker Lawsuit was filed on July 13, 2023 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York — Case 1:23-cv-06016.
