September 2, 2025 — Another lawsuit has been filed against Pfizer by a woman who was diagnosed with a brain tumor after using Depo-Provera birth control shots.
The lawsuit was filed by Deborah W., a woman from Louisiana whose doctors gave her injections of Depo-Provera in 1998 and 1999.
Over time, she said she “experienced concerning symptoms,” and after “multiple medical visits complaining of these symptoms, she was diagnosed with an intracranial meningioma in approximately 2023.”
Her lawsuit explains that this type of brain tumor can press against sensitive surrounding tissues and cause many severe symptoms, including blindness, weakness, difficulty speaking, or even death.
The sensitive location of an intracranial meningioma also presents other risks. Surgery is usually necessary to remove the tumor, but this surgery can have severe long-term neurological consequences.
The lawsuit accuses Pfizer of failing to adequately study the risk of meningioma brain tumors from Depo-Provera, despite decades of accumulating evidence. In March 2024, a study in the British Medical Journal found that women who reported using Depo-Provera had a 5.6-fold higher rate of surgery for meningioma tumors.
According to recent court records, nearly 1,000 Depo-Provera lawsuits have already been filed against Pfizer, with the vast majority centralized in a federal Multi-District Litigation (MDL) in the Northern District of Florida under U.S. District Judge M. Casey Rodgers.
The Depo-Provera Lawsuit was filed on August 27, 2025 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida (Pensacola Division) — Case 3:25-cv-01455-MCR-HTC.
