The products include mixed greens, garden salads, Caesar kits, and many other types of salads in bags or clamshells. They have “Best if used by” dates from 11/30/21 through 01/09/22. Dole issued previous recalls on December 22, 2021 and January 7, 2022.

2022: Dole Recalls More Salads for Listeria Risk

In January 2022, Dole Fresh Vegetables Inc. issued a recall for 72 types of pre-packaged salads, mixed greens, and kits that may be contaminated with Listeria bacteria on the iceberg lettuce.

The recalled salads were processed at two facilities (Springfield, OH, and Soledad, CA) and sold in dozens of states at major grocery stores, including Walmart, HEB, ALDI, Kroger, Fred Meyer, QFC, Ralph’s, and many more.

2021 UPDATE: Dole Salads Linked to Another Deadly Listeria Outbreak

In December 2021, Dole Fresh Vegetables recalled all salads that were processed at facilities in North Carolina and Arizona after they were linked to a deadly outbreak of Listeria dating back to 2014. The recalled products include mixed greens, garden salads, Caesar kits, and many other types of salads in bags or clamshells. They were labeled with “Best if used by” dates from 11/30/21 through 01/08/22. The Product lot code begins with the letter “N” or “Y” in the upper right-hand corner of the package.

2015: Dole Salads Linked to Deadly Listeria Outbreak

May 2016 — The Justice Department is investigating reports that Dole knew about Listeria contamination in a salad processing facility for two years before issuing a recall. Click here to read more.

In January 2015, the FDA announced a recall for all pre-packaged salads sold by Dole Fresh Vegetables due to Listeria contamination.

The outbreak sickened at least 33 people in the U.S. and Canada since July 5, 2015, according to a report by the CDC. All of the victims were hospitalized, including one person from Michigan who died of listeriosis.

One of the outbreaks was a pregnant woman. Listeria can cause miscarriage, stillbirth, premature labor, and serious illness or death in newborn babies. The FDA recommends that pregnant women who ate the salads should seek medical attention and tell their doctor.

Listeria Food Poisoning

Eating food contaminated with the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes can cause a serious type of food poisoning known as listeriosis. The symptom can appear within a few days, but may take several months (up to 70 days). Most people experience fever, muscle aches, and chills, sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms.
