Dorel Maxi-Cosi Pria Car Seat Recall
On August 30, 2021, Dorel Juvenile Group recalled more than 93,000 Maxi-Cosi Pria 70, Pria 85, and Pria 85 Max Convertible Car Seats because they may not adequately protect children who weigh more than 65 pounds if the seat is installed in the forward-facing position.
What is the Problem?
The Pria 70, Pria 85 and Pria 85 Max Convertible Car Seats are designed for children who weigh between 14 and 85 pounds, but the car seat may not adequately protect a child who weighs more than 65 pounds from suffering head injuries in a car accident. No injuries were reported.
“If the seat is installed in the forward-facing position and secured to the vehicle using the lap belt without also using the top tether, the seat may not adequately protect the child from head injury in the event of a crash,” according to the recall notice.
What is the Risk?
Children who are not protected by a car seat can suffer a traumatic brain injury (or a concussion) if they are involved in a car crash, which causes a bump or jolt to the head. It can permanently change how the brain works, resulting in a lifelong disability or other severe symptoms.
