March 13, 2025 — New Age International Inc., a food distribution company based in Brooklyn, New York, has announced a recall for Daily Veggies® Enoki Mushrooms due to a risk of food poisoning.
The recall involves all lots of Daily Veggies® Enoki Mushrooms, which were distributed to wholesalers in New York and shipped to stores in other states.
The enoki mushrooms were labeled as a “Product of Korea.” They were sold in a clear plastic bag (200-g / 7.05-oz.) with a yellow and green label and UPC Code 880915945889 printed on the back of the bag.
Health officials said the potential risk of Listeria contamination was discovered by the West Virginia Department of Agriculture after a bag collected from a store in West Virginia tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes on January 15, 2025.
No illnesses were reported, but enoki mushrooms have become a frequent source of recalls due to contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, which is a bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal food poisoning infections.
The risk of a serious illness is greatest for young children, older adults, people with weakened immune systems, pregnant women and newborn babies. According to the recall:
“Although healthy persons may suffer only sort-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.”
The manufacturer is urging customers not to eat these mushrooms. The product should be immediately destroyed, or returned to the place of purchase for a full refund.
