November 14, 2019 — Ezzo Sausage Company recalled over 25,000 pounds of pepperoni and sausage pizza toppings due to a risk of Listeria.
The recall was issued after a sample tested positive for Listeria contamination, according to the USDA Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS). There have been no confirmed reports of illnesses.
Ezzo supplied ready-to-eat pepperoni and sausage pizza toppings to restaurants under several brand-names, including:
- Ezzo Brand
- Ezzo Sausage Company
- Ange’s Pizza
- Creno’s Pizza
- Flyers Pizza & Subs
- GiAntonio Brand
- Joseppi’s Pizza
- Massey’s
- Pizza King
The recalled pizza toppings were produced on October 29, October 30, and November 5, 2019. They are marked with establishment number “EST. 1838A” inside the USDA mark of inspection.
The products were shipped to distribution centers in Indiana and Ohio.
Listeria infections are particularly dangerous for young children, elderly adults, people with vulnerable immune systems, and pregnant women. FSIS urges high-risk people who develop flu-like symptoms within 2 months of eating contaminated food to seek medical care.
