October 6, 2022 — Family Fare, a Wisconsin-based establishment, is warning consumers about a risk of Listeria in 15-oz. packages of Our Local Smokehouse® Chili Cheese Wieners.
No illnesses were reported, according to a Public Health Alert issued on October 1.
Instead, the problem was discovered when the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture reported that products tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes during routine testing.
The recall involves fully-cooked, ready-to-eat chili cheese wieners that were produced on September 21, 2022. They were sold in 15-oz. vacuum-sealed packages with a use-by date of January 19, 2023.
The products were shipped to a Family Fare retail location in Cannon Falls, Minnesota.
Infections with Listeria bacteria can cause listeriosis, a serious and sometimes fatal type of food poisoning. The infection can rapidly spread beyond the digestive system to the brain and central nervous system, resulting in life-threatening meningitis.
“In pregnant women, the infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery or life-threatening infection of the newborn,” according to the recall warning.
