December 30, 2022 — The FDA and Whele LLC have announced a Class 1 recall for Mighty Bliss Electric Heating Pads due to injury risks, electric shocks, skin burns, and rashes.
Class 1 recalls are the most serious type of recall, reserved for devices that can cause serious injuries or deaths.
No deaths were reported, but at least 31 people reported injuries, including electric shocks, burns, and skin burns, rashes or irritation.
Whele LLC said it received 286 customer complaints related to the recall between July 2021 and September 2022. According to the FDA:
“Use of the recalled Mighty Bliss electric heating pads could lead to serious adverse events including infections, scar tissue from a skin contraction, skin irritation, skin burns, electric shock, and fire.”
The recall involves about 544,212 heating pads that were distributed nationwide in the U.S. between July 29, 2021 and July 21, 2022. They were sold online through Amazon.com and Walmart.com.
