UPDATE: Mighty Bliss Heating Pad Class Action Lawsuit Filed in California
In January 2023, a class action lawsuit was filed against Whele LLC by a woman from California who suffered skin irritation and rashes after using a Mighty Bliss Electric Heating Pad. She also claims that she tried to get a refund, but Whele offered no financial compensation for people who were injured. She is seeking to represent a nationwide class of people in the U.S. who purchased a Mighty Bliss Heating Pad.
FDA Announces Class 1 Recall
In December 2022, the FDA announced a Class 1 recall for Mighty Bliss Electric Heating Pads due to a risk of electric shocks, skin burns, and rashes:
“Use of the recalled Mighty Bliss electric heating pads could lead to serious adverse events including infections, scar tissue from a skin contraction, skin irritation, skin burns, electric shock, and fire.”
Mighty Bliss Heating Pad Recall
In October 2022, more than 544,000 Mighty Bliss Electric Heating Pads were recalled by Whele LLC after nearly 300 reports of burns, rashes, skin irritation, electrical shocks, overheating, sparking, burning, or other electrical problems.
What is the Problem?
The voluntary recall involves approximately 544,212 Mighty Bliss Electric Heating Pads that were distributed between July 29, 2021 through July 21, 2022 and sold on Amazon.com and walmart.com.
There were 286 complaints between July 2021 to September 2022 related to the product overheating, sparking, burning, or presenting other electrical problems, according to the recall notice.
How Many People Were Injured?
At least 31 people complained about injuries after using a Mighty Bliss Electric Heating Pad, according to the manufacturer. The reported injuries included mild electrical shocks, burns, rashes, or skin irritation.
According to the recall notice:
“Use of this product may lead to electric shocks and/or skin irritation, rashes, blisters, or burns. Severe burns may result in infection or formation of scar tissue.”
What Heating Pads Were Recalled?
The recall includes Mighty Bliss Heating Pads with the following model numbers and description:
- MB-001 (NA-H1121B): Large (12” x 24”) Blue Electric Heating Pad
- MB-002 (NA-H21C): Extra-Large (20” x 24”) Blue Electric Heating Pad
- PE-MtyBls-HeatPad-12×24-Gry-V2(NA-H1121B): Large (12” x 24”) Grey Electric Heating Pad
What Should I Do?
The manufacturer is asking consumers to immediately stop using the product, make sure it is unplugged, safely cut the cord off the device, and take a picture of the device to demonstrate that it can no longer be used. Then, upload a picture of the device with the cord cut to the website at https://www.mightyblissheatingpadrecall.expertinquiry.com/ for a refund.
